$31,000 a month to work in SLO County? CA is hiring for these high-paying jobs

Looking for new employment in San Luis Obispo County?

The state of California is hiring employees across the county for full-time positions ranging from psychiatry to environmental science.

State jobs are known for offering competitive benefits and enrollment in the nation’s largest public pension plan.

Look through some of the latest state jobs available in SLO County on the CalCareers website, as of Wednesday, Nov. 5:

Caltrans maintenance area superintendent | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Transportation
  • Salary: $7,306 to $9,068 per month

The maintenance area superintendent collects inspection and inventory data using global positioning system survey tools and hand-held computers.

The superintendent is also responsible for reviewing field data for quality and accuracy, as well as producing reports based on field evaluations.

The application period closes on Monday, Nov. 10.

Clinical counselor | Permanent, full time

  • Department: State Hospitals
  • Salary: $8,133 to $10,378 per month

The clinical counselor conducts assessments and screenings at Atascadero State Hospital.

The counselor collaborates with the treatment team and facilitates individual and group therapy sessions.

Other duties include developing and implementing behavioral and treatment plans, as well as providing clinical supervision as needed.

Associate warden | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Corrections and Rehabilitation
  • Salary: $13,161 to $15,067 monthly

The associate warden supervises, plans and administers some custodial programs at the California Men’s Colony.

The associate warden is expected to participate in staff meetings and problem-solving meetings with the Incarcerated Person’s Advisory Council, and plan custody and treatment programs.

The associate warden also must collect evidence and investigate felonious behavior.

Environmental scientist | Permanent, full time

  • Department: State Water Resources Control Board
  • Salary: $4,418 to $9,321 per month

The environmental scientist, working within the Stormwater Program, implements permits and programs for construction work and industrial facilities meant to protect and restore water quality and watershed health.

The scientist also provides regulatory oversight, reviews technical data and conducts site inspections.

The application period closes on Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Fish and game warden | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Fish and Wildlife
  • Salary: $5,563 to $8,802 a month

The fish and game warden conducts law enforcement work to protect fish and wildlife habitats and enforce pollution laws.

Other duties include upholding public safety and preventing the “illegal commercialization of natural resources,” according to the official job description.

The employee may have to use off-road vehicles and specialized equipment, as well as work odd hours.

Guide II | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Parks and Recreation
  • Salary: $4,496 to $5,630 per month

The historical monument supervisor, reporting at Hearst Castle in San Simeon, is in charge of crafting quality interpretive guest experiences of the house museum and art collection.

The supervisor recruits, trains, evaluates and coaches Hearst Castle guides, as well as completes historical research about the historic estate.

The application period closes on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

Librarian | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Corrections and Rehabilitation
  • Salary: $5,649 to $7,800 per month

The correctional facility librarian operates smalls libraries and access to online legal content at the California Men’s Colony.

The librarian selects, catalogs, references and loans out books and other library materials and media.

Other duties include maintaining order and supervising incarcerated persons who are using the library.

Native American spiritual leader | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Corrections and Rehabilitation
  • Salary: $5,743 to $7,541 per month

Under the direction of the community resources manager, the spiritual leader supervises and provides Native American religious activities to incarcerated persons at the California Men’s Colony.

The spiritual leader counsels the prison population and talks to them about ethical, moral and spiritual matters.

The spiritual leader is also expected to conduct religious services, rites and classes.

The application period closes on Sunday, Nov. 16.

Staff psychiatrist | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Correctional Health Care Services
  • Salary: $30,259 to $31,136 per month

Under direction of the senior psychiatrist, the staff psychiatrist provides outpatient services to incarcerated people at the California Men’s Colony.

The employee manages and reviews cases; performs psychiatric evaluations; participates in treatment planning; prescribes medications and conducts crisis intervention and psychotherapy.

The application is open until filled.
