Driver airlifted with major injuries after rollover crash off SLO County cliff

A driver was airlifted with major injuries from a San Luis Obispo County car crash on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a news release from the California Highway Patrol, at an unknown time between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., a 2002 GMC Sierra pickup truck was involved in a crash on Indian Valley Road near the Monterey County line.

The truck’s driver, a 30-year-old woman, veered off the west edge of the roadway while traveling northbound on Indian Valley Road, and was spotted by another vehicle at the bottom of a steep cliff.

According to the release, preliminary findings indicate that the truck entered a curve, left the roadway and rolled down the cliffside before coming to rest upright in a grassy field.

Emergency responders arrived on scene and extricated the driver, who suffered major injuries, according to the release.

She was airlifted by Coastal Division CHP helicopter paramedics to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria, according to the release.

The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation, and drug or alcohol impairment does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash, according to the release.

The CHP Templeton division is asking any members of the public with information regarding the crash to call 805-400-6720.
