SLO County just got a new ZIP code. See where
Lake Nacimiento and the surrounding area has been recognized as an official community with a unique ZIP code by the U.S. Postal Service.
The northern San Luis Obispo County area will be recognized under the 93426, ZIP code, U.S. representative Jimmy Panetta, D-Santa Cruz, announced in a news release.
This is a significant change for nearly 3,000 SLO County residents on the northern shore of Lake Nacimiento who were previously categorized as residents of Bradley in Monterey County for mailing purposes. This designation caused confusion and often resulted in misdirected emergency services, jury summons, medical referrals and social service assignments, according to the news release.
The postal service previously updated its records in August of 2024 to designate SLO County as the default county associated with the 93426 ZIP code, but Lake Nacimiento was still not recognized as an acceptable city name.
Now, Lake Nacimiento and Bradley can both be used to identify the 93426 ZIP code.
According to Panetta — who advocated for the new ZIP code designation in Congress — the change addresses critical safety, service and identity concerns for these residents. It will impact over 1,100 parcels on Lake Nacimiento’s north shore, according to the news release.
“Too many residents of Lake Nacimiento faced serious confusion when it came to emergency services, medical care and basic public resources because their community wasn’t properly recognized by the US Postal Service,” Panetta said in the news release. “... I’m proud of our work and the commonsense change to the ZIP code that will improve safety, strengthen services and bolster the identity of that community.”
