An injured hiker was rescued and airlifted from Islay Hill on Tuesday.

The San Luis Obispo Fire Department responded to a call for a hiker with an orthopedic leg injury on Islay Hill around 10:20 a.m., the emergency response app PulsePoint showed.

According to a Facebook post from the agency, crews “quickly mobilized” and had utility terrain vehicle and e-bike support on standby.

Firefighters were able to hike up the patient, provide and on-scene assessment and coordinate an airlift with an H-70 helicopter, the agency said.

The patient was “safely hoisted and flown” to Islay Park, where he was transferred to an ambulance for transport to a local hospital, the agency said.

“Great teamwork by all involved, and we wish the patient a speedy recovery,” the agency said.
