SLO County vegetation fire threatens structures, burns 13 acres in See Canyon

A vegetation fire burned 13 acres in See Canyon on Friday afternoon, threatening several structures and prompting an evacuation warning before it was contained.

The fire was reported around 12:37 p.m., according to emergency response app PulsePoint.

It was located near Black Walnut Road and Happy Trails Road, across from See Canyon Road, according to emergency radio traffic.

A video shared on X by Cal Fire showed flames burning uphill in dry grass and brush.

At around 1:30, responders requested a hard closure of See Canyon Road on both sides as a result of the fire, according to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page.

That included a request for closure of the northbound lane at Meadowbrook Lane, the website showed.

That was followed by a road closure at Los Osos Valley Road and Prefumo Canyon Road in San Luis Obispo, according to the CHP’s Traffic Incident Information Page.

An evacuation warning was issued by the county Office of Emergency Services for the area one mile north and a half-mile south of the intersection fo Black Walnut Road and Happy Trails Road. It was released at 4:30 p.m.

Forward progress was stopped at 2:30 p.m., and by 5 p.m., the fire was 75% contained.
