Looking for government work in San Luis Obispo County?
The cities of Morro Bay, Paso Robles, Pismo Beach and San Luis Obispo are hiring employees to fill a variety of open positions in multiple departments, including engineering, law enforcement finance and maintenance.
According to the city of SLO’s website, employees are eligible for benefits ranging from “health care for the whole family to tuition reimbursement,” as well as vacation days, life insurance and gym discounts.

Open city jobs in San Luis Obispo
Control systems administrator | Permanent, full-time

The control systems administrator is responsible for conducting several control system design duties.
These include planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of the utility department’s computer-based process control.
The administrator also completes data network tasks as needed..
Lateral police officer | Permanent, full-time

- Salary: $104,208 to $134,680 per year
The San Luis Obispo Police Department is continuously recruiting for police officers. This role requires someone who is able to quickly and calmly respond to criminal activities and emergency situations.
Officers are expected to resolve potentially violent conflicts that occur in San Luis Obispo. They observe events, write reports and conduct follow ups on safety threats to the community.
The position also involves some work on in-depth criminal investigations.
Senior civil engineer | Permanent, full-time

The senior civil engineer specializes in development projects, completing “complex and difficult professional engineering work,” the city of San Luis Obispo said.
Duties include working on and reviewing the development and improvement of public works infrastructure projects, including water and wastewater utilities.
The engineer is also expected to oversee infrastructure maintenance programs.

Community development administrative assistant I/II | Permanent, full-time

The administrative assistant aids the daily operations of building, planning and engineering divisions in the city of Paso Robles.
The assistant performs a wide range of administrative and customer service duties, including tracking and processing city permits and maintaining records, databases and calendars.
Other duties include preparing professional reports and drafting meeting agendas and minutes for planning and development committees and public hearings.
Streets maintenance specialist I/II | Permanent, full-time

The maintenance specialist completes construction, maintenance and repair work for more than 150 miles of streets.
Other duties include the upkeep of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, signs, street lights and other public works structures.
The specialist also patches potholes, pours sidewalks, clears storm drains and installs traffic signs, in addition to responding to emergency street maintenance requests.
City of Morro Bay is hiring for these roles
City manager | Permanent, full-time

- Salary: Up to $265,000

The city manager must complete a “high level of administrative, technical and professional work” when it comes to supervising the city goverment’s administration, the job posting said.
Candidates must have board leadership experience in community and economic development and improvement projects.
The city manager is also expected to facilitate policy discussions and deliver financially responsible and sustainable budgets.
Senior fiscal analyst | Permanent, full-time
