A fallen oak tree damaged a nearby power line in Templeton, leaving nearly 1,400 PG&E customers without power and sparking a small vegetation fire Sunday afternoon.

According to Cal Fire spokesperson Ryan Grebe, firefighters were dispatched to a vegetation fire on Winery Road in Templeton.

An oak tree had fallen across the road, damaging a power line that started a small vegetation fire of about 100 by 50 feet, Grebe said.

No structures or people were threatened, but the road was closed as cleanup was estimated to take about an hour, according to Grebe.

According to PG&E’s outage report map, 1,399 customers in an area spanning from Templeton to Nacimiento Lake lost power around 1:30 p.m.

Power was expected to be restored at 6 p.m.
