Containment increases for Madre Fire in SLO County. See latest acreage
The Madre Fire burning in the eastern corner of San Luis Obispo County was 30% containment as of Sunday morning.
In a post on its X account, Cal Fire SLO also announced that the massive fire is now 30% contained. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The fire began on Wednesday, July 2, along Highway 166 near New Cuyama, according to Cal Fire’s first incident report for the fire.
Four days later, the fire had grown to 80,248 acres. Only one structure has been destroyed and 50 were still threatened, the report said. There have so far been no injuries or fatalities to civilians or fire fighters.
