San Luis Obispo County is hiring for multiple positions in various departments, including health care, social services and public works.

Although the county government recently cut nearly 155 jobs due to a major budget deficit, there are still employment opportunities available.

County jobs provide benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans, as well as retirement for regular full-time employees.

These were some of the available positions in SLO County as of Tuesday, July 1:

Fiscal/administrative division manager | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Air Pollution Control District
  • Salary: $133,286 to $161,990 per year

The financial and administrative division manager directs the Air Pollution Control District’s budgetary, fiscal, administrative, technological and human resource programs.

The employee is expected to develop administrative procedure and policy guidance, as well as supervise and train some personnel at the district.

Other duties include managing the district’s cash flow and reviewing program accounting goals and policies.

Behavioral health specialist I/II/III | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Behavioral Health
  • Salary: $57,116 to $93,724 per year

The county is seeking to fill several behavioral health specialist positions. Open roles are available in the Justice Services Division and the Drug and Alcohol Services Division.

Depending on the position, the specialist will provide case management, outpatient treatment and treatment support for at-risk individuals.

Employees should be wiling to provide outreach services in schools, clinics, San Luis Obispo County Jail, San Luis Obispo Juvenile Hall and other inpatient settings.

Buyer I/II | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Central Services
  • Salary: $55,078 to $82,617 per year

The buyer coordinates the purchasing of materials, supplies, equipment and services for the department.

The buyer is expected to negotiate with vendors and supplies and comply with department policies, procedures and regulations.

Other duties include preparing bids and contracts to acquire goods and services.

Deputy district attorney I/II/III/IV | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: District Attorney’s Office
  • Salary: $87,734 to $187,740 per year

The deputy district attorney is responsible for performing professional legal work, including prosecuting misdemeanor and felony criminal cases in the county.

The deputy district attorney could be involved in cases regarding sexual assault, domestic violence and gangs. Civil cases could involve mental health, family support, consumer law and more.

Prosecutors are also expected to appear in court and prepare briefs, opinions and other legal documents, as well as research and try criminal cases in court.

Legal clerk I/II/III | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Social Services
  • Salary: $46,342 to $72,238 per year

The legal clerk provides specialized clerical work to support child welfare staff working on juvenile dependency cases.

Duties include creating, editing and filing court documents, as well as conducting parent or relative searches and reviewing documents.

The legal clerk is also responsible for maintaining and updating data in department databases and preparing notices for hearings, petitions, court reports and more.

Senior geographic information systems analyst | Limited term, full-time

  • Department: Public Works
  • Salary: $97,385 to $124,300 per year

In this two-year appointment, the geographic information systems analyst develops, integrates and manages enterprise Geographic Information System applications, spatial data and web-based mapping tools for several county departments.

In this senior-level role, the analyst manages complex datasets, configures intuitive web applications and acts as a technical advisor and mentor to junior staff members.

A hybrid schedule may be available for this position.

Senior systems administrator | Limited term, full-time

  • Department: Public Works
  • Salary: $112,028 to $142,979 per year

The senior systems administrator must manage an enterprise Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition platform and the department’s Microsoft Server environment.e.

The administrator is expected to understand and utilize modern technology to inform decisions and improve public services.

The administrator also manages a complex environment, configures intuitive web applications and serves as a technical advisor and mentor to junior information technology staff.

This two-year, limited-term position could be eligible for a hybrid schedule.

Sheriff’s cadet | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Sheriff-Coroner
  • Salary: $74,484 to $95,056 per year

The sheriff’s cadet assists with routine, daily department operations and functions.

Applicants must attend a basic academy course to successfully finish a probation period as a sheriff’s cadet and qualify as a deputy sheriff.

This is an entry-level position into county law enforcement jobs.

Systems administrator II/III | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Public Works
  • Salary: $91,644. to $130,000 per year

The systems administrator will work within the information technology team, managing systems that support waste and wastewater, help desk support and security teams.

Other duties include resolving technical issues for department systems, assisting and training junior staff and overseeing technology projects.
