Morro Bay hired Yvonne Kimball as its new city manager, effective Aug. 14, 2023. She was dismissed from the position on June 24, 2025, after nearly two years.

After almost two years of service, the Morro Bay city manager was dismissed from her employment this week.

The Morro Bay City Council voted 3-2 to dismiss city manager Yvonne Kimball during a closed session meeting on Tuesday, according to interim city attorney Robert Schultz.

Mayor Carla Wixom and Councilmember Jeff Eckles cast the dissenting votes, he said.

It’s unclear why Kimball was fired, and she didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

Kimball started working for the city in August 2023 after undergoing a series of interviews with the city’s executive team, community members and local city managers.

When she was hired in 2023, her annual salary was listed at $217,474, along with a monthly $600 car allowance, enrollment in full health care benefits and a California Public Employees’ Retirement System pension fund.

She was one of 41 people who applied to the position.
