The next time you head to Starbucks, your favorite drink may cost a little extra.

The worldwide coffee shop chain is changing how it charges customers for add-ins including syrups, sauces and extra scoops of matcha powder, Bloomberg first reported.

The new price structure went into effect on Tuesday, June 24.

It’s part of a series of new company-wide strategies — called “Back to Starbucks” initiated by Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol, who took over leadership of the company in September 2024, USA Today reported.

The company aims to increase customer value, standardize beverage pricing and guarantee drink consistency, a Starbucks spokesperson told the Tribune via email on Thursday, June 26.

Here’s what to know about pricing changes at Starbucks:

How much do Starbucks drinks cost?

Starbucks drink prices typically range from $3.15 for a hot brewed coffee to more than $7 for specialty beverages.

In addition to coffee and tea drinks, the Starbucks menu includes hot chocolate, lemonade, refreshers and Frappucino blended beverages.

Grab-and-go food options include breakfast sandwiches, pastries and protein boxes.

You can order in person, in the drive-thru, online or via the Starbucks app.

Starbucks customers will now be charged a flat $0.80 charge for adding any combination of syrups or sauces to an unflavored beverage, according to Starbucks.

How are menu prices changing?

Starbucks customers who frequently customize their drink orders will be hit hardest by the new price increases.

Previously, Starbucks beverage prices differed depending on the type of sauce or syrup added to the drink.

Customers will now be charged a flat 80 cents per drink for adding any flavored syrups or sauces to an unflavored beverage, according to Starbucks.

This includes limited-time-only syrups and sauces such as seasonal flavors, Starbucks said.

The new flat fee means customers will only be changed once for flavor modifications.

There is no extra charge for additional syrups or pumps, the company said.

Starbucks also modifying prices for customers who add products to their beverage orders.

This includes an 80-cent charge per dose of chai concentrate and an extra $1 per scoop of matcha powder in non-matcha drinks, according to Starbucks.

Adding dried fruit to a drink will now cost 50 cents a scoop.

Starbucks told The Tribune that revamping pricing is standard in the restaurant industry and most customers should expect it.

It should also result in better value for many Starbucks patrons, the company said.

Can I still get free beverage add-ins at Starbucks?

Not all flavor modifications will come with a price hike, Starbucks said.

Customers can still add classic syrup to any beverage for free of charge.

You can also add or substitute any sauce or syrup in a pre-flavored beverage for free, according to a Starbucks representative.

For example, you can add vanilla syrup to a mocha for no additional cost.
