SLO County woman dies after truck left in neutral rolls, traps her

Roadway fatality

A 64-year-old Creston woman died when she was hit by her truck Sunday, after she reportedly left the vehicle in neutral while attempting to open a gate.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers received a call for a solo vehicle crash in the 800 block of Cripple Creek Road at 5:20 p.m.

When they arrived, officers determined Valerie White, of Creston, had driven a manual transmission 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck onto a paved driveway entrance.

While trying to access a keypad for a gate code to the left of her vehicle, White left the truck in neutral and did not set the parking brake, the release said.

The truck then rolled back, “causing her to be run over and trapped beneath the vehicle, resulting in fatal injuries,” the CHP said.

It was unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, according to the release. The incident remained under investigation.
