Highway 1 crash injures driver, blocks traffic in SLO County

A tractor and a box truck crashed head-on while driving on Highway 1 near Nipomo on Thursday morning — injuring one driver and causing a small oil spill, the California Highway Patrol said.

The vehicles crashed into each other near the Highway 1 intersection with Division Street at about 8:50 a.m., the CHP traffic log said.

The crash resulted in one major, non-life-threatening injury, CHP officer Trevor Ashby said.

The injured patient had to be extracted from their vehicle, Cal Fire said in a post on X.

The vehicles blocked the roadway, and emergency responders diverted traffic onto Division Street, Ashby said.

Meanwhile, the crash spilled 4 gallons of hydraulic fluid into the soil, the CHP said. The spill was contained before it impacted any nearby waterways.
