Baywood Park-Los Osos may be full of senior citizens, but increasingly it’s also crawling with twenty- and thirtysomethings craving the artsy atmosphere and variety of cuisine in this bayside village.

Now it is going to have two new wine bars opening soon within walking distance from most of the popular places along 2nd Street and Santa Maria.

One new wine bar will be at 715 Santa Maria Ave., Unit D, in a strip shopping center with empty spaces near Nardonne’s.

The 487-square-foot space will be operated by Joel and Christina Garcia of Los Osos. It’s now going through the permit process.

Around the block next to Noi’s 2nd Street Cafe, the new Deovlet Wine bistro expects to open in March on the ground floor of a two-story building owned by the Back Bay Inn.

Winemaker and owner Ryan Deovlet says he plans to be open Thursday through Monday (Farmers Market day), offering wines from his own SLO County vineyards.

Antonio Galloni from Vinous Media called Deovlet “one of the most exciting young winemakers in the Central Coast.”

Deovlet adds that along Los Osos Valley Road, he just planted a new estate vineyard on the south side near Clark Valley Road, where he hopes to harvest wine grapes by 2027.

Meanwhile, other changes are afoot in Baywood Park as well.

The new owner of a formerly empty four-unit commercial complex at the corner of 2nd Street at Santa Isabel plans to fill the strip center with businesses that reflect “community,” according to its owner Alecia Teague.

Teague bought the property in November with husband Kevin.

The couple just opened the Pottery Baywood art studio with 14 potter’s wheels ready for you to sink your hands into the clay to learn this fun art. Classes have already started. This is the couple’s third location in the county after Atascadero and Grover Beach.

Teague says “the vision of the 1200 building is to fill the vacant units with other businesses that bring life to Baywood and give the town more ways to enjoy their beautiful community.”

They have already attracted another co-tenant next door — a yoga studio called The Yoga Lab — opening soon at 1204 2nd St.

The studio will offer classes catering to all levels of practitioners, from beginners to experts, offering a range of intensities including both heated and non-heated options.

Another likely tenant for one of the spaces will offer prepared food on the north end of town.
