A rumor that a Trader Joe’s grocery store will open in Paso Robles has swirled online in recent weeks.

But the city says it’s not true — at least not yet.

On Tuesday, a post in the San Luis Obispo thread on Reddit said that the rumor of a new Trader Joe’s in Paso was “confirmed” to the author of the post.

“They told me that the TJs will be going between or around the tired (sic) store and the Starbucks at the back end of the parking lot,” the post read.

It wasn’t the only chatter online about the popular grocery store coming to Paso.

Another rumor spread that a Trader Joe’s would open in the Paso Robles Lowe’s center.

The Tribune reached out to Paso Robles assistant city manager Chris Huot about the claims as part of its Reality Check series.

“The city has not received official confirmation from Trader Joe’s regarding plans to open a store in Paso Robles,” Huot wrote to The Tribune.

Huot did say that representatives from Trader Joe’s inquired about the city’s development process but haven’t submitted plans for consideration.

“Additionally, there are no related hearings scheduled before the Planning Commission or City Council at this time,” Huot said.

The city is working on a five-year economic development plan designed to attract new businesses to the region and support existing businesses in their efforts to expand to other locations.

Huot encouraged anyone interested in learning more to contact the city’s economic development manager or visit the economic development website.
