Man reported for allegedly pointing phone camera into bathroom stall at Paso Robles park
Police are looking for more information after a recent social media post showed a man allegedly pointing a phone camera into a Paso Robles park bathroom stall.
The alleged incident occurred at Paso Robles City Park on Thursday, police said.
It was then shared in the SLO County News group on Facebook.
“Hey PSA here for everyone! I’m in Paso Robles City park enjoying the lights and decided to use the restroom. A man in the stall next to me placed his phone on the barrier camera facing into my stall as you can see,” Elissa Murray wrote on the SLO County News Facebook page.
“Immediately snapped this photo and called Paso PD to report it,” Murray continued. “I waited a ways away so I could get a good description. They’re searching for him now. Please be aware at all times of your surroundings! Especially in a public park with your children. I don’t know what made me look up in time but I’m glad I did!”
The Tribune reached out to Murray for further comment. She said when she first saw the phone, she couldn’t believe her eyes.
“There’s no way to easily set your phone up there and no reason to set your phone up there,” she said.
Murray shared the incident on social media to bring awareness to the community.
“This is the bathroom that’s literally right next to the kids area of that park,” she said. “Here this person is exploiting that...maybe if people are aware they’ll either catch him or he won’t do it again.”
Police were unable to locate the suspect the day of the report. The suspect’s age and ethnicity were unknown, police said.
“Unfortunately we don’t have a lot of information as the suspect had fled prior to our arrival,” Commander Ricky Lehr told The Tribune on Tuesday.
Lehr said police haven’t received reports of any similar incidents.
“We are advising the city to construct some type of barrier, so this does not occur again,” Lehr said.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police department’s non-emergency line at 805-237-6464.
