Police to be on lookout for drunk drivers in SLO County city this weekend. Here’s when
The Arroyo Grande Police Department will conduct DUI patrols in Arroyo Grande on Saturday night.
Police will be searching for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., according to a police department news release.
Officers will be patrolling across the entire city Saturday night.
“Impaired driving is preventable,” Chief Michael Martinez said in a news release. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
In addition to drunk driving, impaired driving includes the use of medications, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs that could interfere with driving.
Funding for the DUI patrols was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the news release.
What are the penalties for a DUI?
If you are stopped by law enforcement for driving under the influence of intoxicants, the California Department of Motor Vehicles has the authority to revoke or suspend your driving privilege.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI can also face an average of $13,500 in fines, fees and more.
