Residents evacuated as 2 homes erupt in flames in SLO County neighborhood

A house fire in Atascadero prompted an evacuation Friday afternoon after the flames spread to a second residence.

The fire broke out in the 5400 Block of Hermosilla Avenue in Atascadero just before 1 p.m, according to emergency response app PulsePoint.

But the fire soon engulfed a second house — a backyard neighbor located in the 5400 Block of Lobos Avenue, according to Atascadero Fire battalion chief Matt Miranda.

Crews extinguished the flames by 1:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
