Pedestrian struck, killed in apparent hit-and-run crash on Highway 101 in SLO

A 26-year-old man died Sunday night after reportedly being hit by multiple cars on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo.

According to a CHP news release Monday morning, the crash was still under investigation, but preliminary investigation indicated the man walked into the No. 2 northbound lane of the highway near the Madonna Road overpass at about 8:33 p.m.

The man — whose identity has not be released — was hit by an unidentified vehicle, described as potentially an “older model possible tan Toyota Camry,” as well as additional vehicles, according to the release.

The first vehicle then fled the scene and was still outstanding as of Monday morning, CHP said.

The crash was being investigated as a hit-and-run, according to the release.

The incident temporarily shut down northbound Highway 101 on Sunday night as a slew of law enforcement agencies and emergency responders investigated the incident.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact San Luis Obispo’s CHP area office at 805-594-8700.
