Police arrest man allegedly spotted at SLO apartment complex with a gun — again
A man who allegedly fired a gun in the Madonna Road Apartments — prompting an hours-long standoff with police last month — was arrested near the apartment complex again Thursday afternoon, the San Luis Obispo Police Department said.
Luis Martin Barron was involved in an hours-long standoff with police after he allegedly fired a gun in the neighborhood on July 1. At the time, police arrested him and he was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of misdemeanor weapons charges.
He was then released from jail on July 11, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tony Cipolla said.
On Thursday afternoon, children at the apartment complex told an adult that they saw Barron with a handgun in the common room, San Luis Obispo Police Department spokesperson Christine Wallace told The Tribune.
Barron no longer lived at the apartment complex, she said.
The adult reported the sighting to police at 4:30 p.m., Wallace said.
Officers searched the neighborhood and used a reverse 911 call to order nearby residents to shelter in place.
Police did not find Barron on Thursday and lifted the shelter in place.
Officers then arrested Barron in a nearby residential neighborhood on Friday at about 9:30 a.m., Wallace said.
He did not have a weapon, but he did posses drug paraphernalia, she said.
Barron was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of charges including possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of concentrated cannabis and being under the influence of a controlled substance, Wallace said.
