Wildfire erupts in hills between Paso Robles and Cambria
A wildfire ignited in the hills between Paso Robles and Cambria on Saturday afternoon and was threatening some residential structures.
According to Cal Fire, the Cypress Fire started as a vegetation fire off Cypress Mountain Drive shortly after 1 p.m. and quickly spread to 10 acres. It was burning north of Highway 46 West
By Saturday evening, the fire had expanded to 88 acres, according to the Watch Duty app. The fire was 5% contained as of 5 p.m.
Cal Fire dispatched multiple ground and air resources to the area, according to a Cal Fire representative. But all tankers and copters were released at 7:30 p.m.
PG&E also reported a power outage in the area, affecting 131 customers to the west of the fire’s location toward Cambria.
In a post on X, formely known as twitter, the National Weather Service warned of high winds near the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
