SLO County motorcyclist dies after crash with pickup truck in Avila Beach
A motorcyclist died after a crash with a pickup truck in Avila Beach on Tuesday evening, the California Highway Patrol said.
At about 6 p.m., a 58-year-old Arroyo Grande resident was driving a 1992 Harley Davidson eastbound on Avila Beach Drive.
He approached the First Street intersection, which was “controlled by a traffic signal,” as a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado was turning left onto Avila Beach Drive from First Street, the CHP said.
The CHP said the motorcycle was traveling at an unknown rate of speed and apparently proceeded through the red light directly into the established path of the pickup truck.
The crash ejected the motorcyclist from his seat. An ambulance transported him to Adventist Health Sierra Vista hospital in San Luis Obispo, where he died of his injuries, the CHP said.
The Chevrolet driver, a 29-year-old Santa Maria resident, suffered minor injuries in the crash.
“The crash is still under investigation, and it is unknown at this time if impairment is suspected,” the news release said.
