Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire that burned 40 acres of grassland Monday evening off Creston Road east of Paso Robles.

Initially, crews on scene reported the flames were moving quickly and could threaten nearby power lines, according to radio traffic.

As of 6:40 p.m., the fire had burned 10 to 12 acres, Cal Fire said in a post on X.

By 7:15 p.m., firefighters had knocked down the flames and switched to mop-up, Cal Fire said.

Meanwhile, PG&E’s outage map showed power was out for 2,522 customers in the area. Power was expected to be restored by 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, PG&E said.

The fire was located in the 3000 block Creston Road near Franklin Hot Springs, according to radio traffic and the emergency services app Pulsepoint.

Photos captured by cameras on the ALERTCalifornia site showed the fire had blackened an area of open grassland near a vineyard.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
