83-year-old Cambria woman seriously injured in Highway 101 crash near Cuesta Grade

An 83-year-old woman from Cambria suffered major injuries in a car crash involving two vehicles on Highway 101 north of San Luis Obispo near the Cuesta Grade on Tuesday morning.

According to a news release from the California Highway Patrol, at around 8:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a collision on the southbound side of Highway 101 at Tassajara Creek Road, south of Santa Margarita.

According to the release, a 2011 Toyota Camry driven by an 83-year-old woman from Cambria was headed east on Tassajara Creek Road when the driver pulled out in front of a 2017 Honda Civic being driven by a 47-year-old Atascadero man and carrying a passenger as it traveled south on Highway 101.

The front of the Honda collided with the left rear end of the Toyota, causing major damage to both vehicles and injuries to the vehicles’ occupants, according to the release.

The driver of the Honda suffered minor facial abrasions and pain in his torso, while the woman driving the Toyota sustained substantial injuries, according to the release.

She was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. The man was not transported to the hospital, according to the release.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected as the cause of the accident, according to the release.
