Cal Fire was responding to reports of a vegetation fire near the Cholame Y intersection where Highway 41 and 46 meet Tuesday morning.

At around 10:07 a.m., Cal Fire received a report of smoke coming from vegetation on the northern side of the Y intersection and dispatched tankers, trucks and an air-to-ground unit, according to emergency services app PulsePoint.

According to a post on X from Cal Fire, as of 10:36 a.m., firefighters were still working to contain the fire, which burned a 100-by-30-foot patch of land near the road.

In the post, Cal Fire advised drivers to use caution while passing through the intersection.

The fire was not contained as of 10:45 a.m., but forward progress had been stopped by Cal Fire firefighters, public information officer Toni Davis told The Tribune.
