SLO County breaks ground on new $40 million Probation Department building
The San Luis Obispo County Probation Department will eventually move out of its vintage building into a brand-new space.
On Wednesday, construction crews broke ground on a new, two-story Probation Department building, according to a news release from the county Public Works Department.
Construction on the $40 million building should be finished in January 2026, the release said.
The 34,000-square-foot facility will be located on a 21-acre parcel north of the Johnson Avenue and Bishop Street intersection in San Luis Obispo.
“The new building will support the Probation Department’s critical public safety and rehabilitative mission,” Chief Probation Officer Robert Reyes said in the release. “It’s going to improve access for the clients that we work with, and it’s going to offer new training space for our probation officers.”
The building will be built behind existing medical facilities, the release said.
The department won’t be moving far, as it is currently located in the Casa Loma facility on Bishop Street. That building was built during the 1940s.
Lodi-based company F&H Construction will design and build the building.
