Students and faculty at a Paso Robles elementary school got a scare Wednesday morning after a loud bang sounded throughout the campus — but never fear, it was just a basketball.

According to a news release from the Paso Robles Police Department, staff at Pat Butler Elementary School decided to order a shelter-in-place while school resource officers investigated the source of the single, loud bang Wednesday morning.

The source of the bang was later determined to have come from an old basketball bursting at the seams, according to the release.

The police department congratulated the school staff on their emergency preparedness — even in the event of a false alarm.
