Tens of thousands of San Luis Obispo County residents were without power on Sunday, as a major atmospheric river storm hit the area — bringing with it intense winds that knocked down trees and power poles throughout the area.
In the early afternoon, nearly 40,000 local customers were without electricity, PG&E spokesperson Carina Corral told The Tribune.
That number has since decreased to roughly 31,000 customers as of 4 p.m., according to Corral. That’s spread across 240 storm-related outages, she added.
Here’s are some of the biggest outages as of 5:30 p.m.:
Los Osos: 4,101 customers impacted, no time yet for expected restoration
Paso Robles: 3,146 customers impacted, no time yet for expected restoration
Nipomo: four outages impacting 2,856 customers, no time yet for expected restoration
Pismo Beach and Oceano: 2,442 customers impacted, power expected to be restored by 10 p.m.
Atascadero: 1,659 customers impacted, no time yet for expected restoration
Cambria: 1,615 customers impacted, no time yet for expected restoration
San Luis Obispo and Edna Valley: 1,299 customers impacted, no time yet for expected restoration
Cayucos: 769 customers impacted, no time yet for expected restoration
- Lake Nacimiento: 679 customers impacted, power expected to be restored by 7 p.m.
Morro Bay: three outages impacting 536 customers impacted, no time yet for expected restoration
PG&E crews were working to restore power across the county as of Sunday afternoon.
“PG&E has been preparing for this storm, has a plan, and is executing that plan,” Corral told The Tribune. “Ahead of storms, PG&E stages restoration crews, power poles, power lines, transformers and other electric equipment at yards throughout our service territory in preparation to restore power to affected areas safely and as quickly as possible.”
