Firefighters respond to brush fire in southern SLO County
Firefighters stopped forward progress on a vegetation fire that started in Oceano on Monday morning.
Firefighting crews from Five Cities Fire Authority and Cal Fire were expected to be mopping up the scene for two-to-three hours, said Cal Fire Division Chief Eric Shalhoob.
The fire was first reported at 1600 Aloha Place in Oceano at 10:54 a.m., according to emergency services app PulsePoint.
The fire was described as a “slow-moving grass fire” in heavy brush, according to emergency scanner traffic.
Shalhoob said it ultimately burned a roughly 50-by-50 foot area.
Firefighters set up a staging area at the South San Luis Obispo County Sanitation District as they responded to the incident.
Shalhoob said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
