SLO County city opens long-awaited new fire station with 3 firefighters, fire truck

Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services has a new home on Union Road.

On Monday morning, Fire Station 3 opened at 2924 Union Road, the city announced in a news release.

“Fire Station 3 is a long-awaited critical public safety facility that will reinforce the existing emergency response system, improve response times to those areas that are currently outside of the 4-minute response zones, and assist with future growth and development,” the release said.

The new station will be staffed daily with three firefighters, from a new facility with 2,602 square feet of living and office space and 4,190 square feet of garage space, the release said.

Fire Station 3’s crews will primarily respond using a fire truck kept at the station, and will cross-staff the fire department’s heavy rescue and aerial ladder truck, the release said.

The new facility was funded with a combination of development impact fees and Measure J-20 funds, which was approved by the community in 2020 with 56.73% of the vote, according to the release.

The measure introduced a 1% general sales tax to maintain essential public services and infrastructure.

An additional training center and office space for the city’s Community Risk Reduction Division are also in the works at the site of the Union Road project.

A public ribbon cutting event and open house will be held at Fire Station 3 in the spring.
