A little more than a month after he was abruptly pulled from Central Coast airwaves due to corporate layoffs, popular radio personality Adam Montiel has found a new way to reach local listeners.

Montiel on Monday launched a daily podcast, “Up+Adam with Adam Montiel” — a spinoff of sorts of his longtime morning show, “Up & Adam in the Morning” that ran for years on American General Media’s The Krush 92.5 and Coast 104.5 stations.

Montiel, who has a 20-year career in local radio, was let go from American General Media in early October as part of a “company-wide layoff,” station management told The Tribune at the time.

According to a news release Tuesday, Montiel’s new podcast debuted at No. 26 on Apple Podcasts U.S. Daily News Chart, ranking it above other podcasts like CNN Daily, Good Morning America and PBS NewsHour.

“The outpouring of support from the community following Montiel’s departure has been overwhelming, with a consistent call for more content,” the release said. “Responding to this demand, Montiel is stepping into the thriving world of podcasts, recognizing the medium’s global reach and its power to connect with audiences on a deeper level.”

According to the release, the new podcast “marks a daily exploration into the stories that define the Central Coast.” In it, Montiel is expected to interview local and notable personalities, and cover topics from wine and food to health and education.

“My goal is to provide Community Content from Concentrate,” Montiel said in the release. “This daily podcast will be a celebration of the amazing people, places, and experiences that make our region special, without the filler or reception issues sometimes associated with FM radio. I aim to inspire both local residents and those listening from outside the Central Coast, enticing them to visit and experience the beauty of our community.”

This isn’t Montiel’s first foray into podcasting: He currently works on “Where Wine Takes You,” a podcast partnership with Paso Wine.

“Up+Adam with Adam Montiel” is available wherever you get your podcasts, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. You can also find a full list of ways to listen at adammontiel.com/up-adam-show.
