Veterans Day in SLO County: Here’s a roundup of events happening this year

Communities will be hosting events across San Luis Obispo County this weekend in honor of those who served.

Here’s a roundup of some of the Veterans Day events taking place around the Central Coast.

All of the celebrations are free and open to the public.

Atascadero

The Atascadero Veterans Memorial Foundation will hold its annual Veterans Day celebrations at the Faces of Freedom Veterans Memorial at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The ceremony is expected to include a flyover by Estrella Warbirds, a color guard, guest speakers and more.

The Faces of Freedom Memorial is located at 8038 Portola Road.

The Atascadero Kiwanis Club will be selling tri-tip sandwich and hot dog meals following the ceremony, for $15 and $8 respectively.

Cambria

Post 432 of the American Legion will host its Veterans Day event at the Veterans Hall at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. and lunch will be offered for donations. There will also be a speech by San Luis Obispo County veterans services officer and Army veteran, Morgan Boyd.

The Veterans Hall is located at 1000 Main St.

Los Osos

Veterans Day events will start Friday evening with community volunteers placing flags at Los Osos Valley Mortuary and Memorial Park starting at 4 p.m.

A Saturday ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the cemetery, located at 2260 Los Osos Valley Road. The ceremony will feature a helicopter flyover, singer Kaylee Ivey, guest speaker Kim Knippenberg and lunch.

Paso Robles

The Paso Robles District Cemetery will hold a Veterans Day ceremony starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The event will feature a speech from World War II veteran Robert W. Hager, free refreshments, music from the Cuesta College Concord Chorus and more.

The cemetery is located at 45 Lake Nacimiento Drive.

The Estrella Warbirds Museum, located at 4251 Dry Creek Road, is also free to the public on Saturday during operating hours.

Pismo Beach

The Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its Veterans Day event at the Pismo Beach Pier on Saturday.

The event will start at noon at the first diamond of the Pier located at 581 Dolliver St.

San Luis Obispo

The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum and Post 66 of the American Legion will hold a celebration at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

The event will feature a bounce house, a craft table for children and blood drive as well as free lunch for veterans and their families.

Tours of the museum will be free from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The museum is located at 801 Grand Ave.
