The Paso Robles City Council’s newest member is a Cal Poly graduate and second-generation pistachio farmer.

Sharon Roden will represent District 1 on the City Council, replacing John Hamon in the seat.

Roden was selected by the City Council in late September and was confirmed during the council meeting on Oct. 3, according to the council agenda.

Roden is a member of American Pistachio Growers and was elected chair of the trade organization at one point, according to Farm Progress.

District 1 is located in the northeast corner of the city and includes Paso Robles Municipal Airport.

Hamon, who has been part of the Paso Robles City Council since 2006, was mayor pro tempore in 2022 and 2023.

He was appointed mayor of Paso Robles by his peers on the council after the death of elected Mayor Steve Martin.
