Traveling to Bakersfield this fall? You’ll have to detour around a closure on Highway 46, according to Caltrans.

Highway 46 near Lost Hills will undergo a full closure beginning Monday as part of a road widening project, the state road agency said in a news release.

The Highway 46 closure is expected to remain in effect until mid-November.

Highway 46 will be closed from west of Lost Hills Road to west of Brown Material Road and Holloway Road in Kern County, the release said.

For drivers heading in and out of Paso Robles via Highway 46, two detours will be available during construction, Caltrans said.

The northern detour utilizes Interstate 5 and Highway 41, Caltrans said, while the southern detour uses Interstate 5, Lerdo Highway and Highway 33, Caltrans said.

“Caltrans would like to thank residents and commuters for their patience during this project and remember to please ‘Slow for the Cone Zone,’” the agency said in the release.

Highway 46 will be closed from west of Lost Hills Road to west of Brown Material Road and Holloway Road in Kern County, starting on Monday, Oct. 2, 2023, and ending in mid-November.
