A vegetation fire in Santa Margarita sparked a big response from Cal Fire on Monday afternoon.

The blaze was reported on private land at 1350 Parkhill Road around 1:45 p.m., according to emergency response app PulsePoint.

The fire consumed about a quarter acre but has the potential to reach 10 acres, Cal Fire Division Chief Eric Shalhoob told The Tribune.

The fire has a moderate rate of spread, he said.

The vegetation fire prompted a big response from Cal Fire at first, with firefighters attacking the blaze from the air and the ground, according to PulsePoint.

People at the scene established a fire break with a bulldozer, which caused Cal Fire to pull back some of the engines at the scene, according to PulsePoint.
