Work to repair the closed pier at Atascadero Lake is set to begin this week, along with other upgrades that will improve accessibility at the park, the city said in a news release.

Atascadero Lake Park will be under construction this month through mid-October as the city makes makes the improvements.

The city was granted $178,000 from the state as part of Proposition 68 to help make the outdoor space more accessible, according to the news release.

The funding will be used to replace the pier railing, deck boards, concrete side and curb. A new sidewalk with handrails and an ADA-compliant ramp will be installed. The ramp will connect the asphalt pathway behind the upper restrooms to a new sidewalk near the entrance to the boathouse, according to the release.

The city will also replace the chain link fencing with a matching pier railing connecting the pier and old wading pool, the release said.

The project aligns with the Atascadero City Council’s priority to improve park facilities throughout the city, the release said.

Construction was expected to begin Tuesday and to last until mid-October.
