Amtrak train slams into car stuck on Central Coast railroad tracks

A woman was able to get out of her car on Monday afternoon before an Amtrak passenger train slammed into it on the railroad tracks south of Guadalupe, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
At approximately 4:40 p.m., county and Guadalupe firefighters and California Highway Patrol officers were dispatched to the incident near the intersection of Highway 1 and Brown Road, fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.
The Acura was pushed some 600 feet down the tracks after the impact, Safechuck added.
The car’s driver and the 95 people aboard the Pacific Surfliner train were not injured, he said.
A caller claimed the driver made an illegal U-turn and struck the railroad crossing arm at the intersection, according to CHP emergency dispatch reports.
The crash remained under investigation as of Monday evening.
