More fliers promoting white supremacy group found in SLO County — this time in Grover Beach
“Inflammatory and hateful” fliers promoting a white supremacy group were distributed throughout Grover Beach over the weekend, police said — weeks after similar fliers were found in San Luis Obispo.
Fliers found in the city Sunday were “affiliated with proponents of the ‘European race,’ ” the Grover Beach Police Department said in a news release Monday.
Police said the content of the fliers, which were left on doorsteps and vehicles overnight, “were perceived by many as inflammatory and hateful.”
“While these fliers fall within the bounds of free speech protected by the First Amendment and do not explicitly endorse hate or violence, their messaging stands in stark contrast to our community’s cherished principles of inclusivity, diversity and mutual respect,” the department said in the release.
In late July, similar fliers surfaced in the city of San Luis Obispo, folded into bags with rocks on them in the South Street area.
The fliers read: “Live with pride, die with honor,” and shared a link for a white supremacist website.
In its release, the Grover Beach Police Department said it would not share photos or reproductions of the fliers in an effort to “not amplify their misguided content.”
Police encouraged anyone who encounters the fliers to “responsibly discard them.”
“The police department remains steadfast in supporting an environment of unity throughout Grover Beach,” the release read.
