SLO County is one of the 10 best places to retire in California, site says

San Luis Obispo County is one of the 10 best places to retire in California, according to a study by financial advice website SmartAsset.

SLO County ranked fourth on the top 10 list, behind Marin, Nevada and Tuolumne counties.

SmartAsset ranked counties based on access to medical care, tax burden and opportunities for recreation, according to a news release.

SLO County’s population is 20% seniors, with 0.18 retirement centers per 1,000 people, according to SmartAsset

The county also had a significant number of medical centers, with 1.94 per 1,000 people, the release said.

SLO County had a tax burden of 16%, which includes state and local income and sales taxes, according to the release. Four other counties — Marin, Nevada, Ventura, Amador and Orange counties — also had a 16% tax burden.
