Update: Person freed from vehicle after crash near Los Osos blocks traffic
A two-vehicle crash near Los Osos stopped traffic Wednesday morning and sent one person to the hospital with major injuries.
Around 9:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol received reports of a rear-end collision between a blue Honda CRV and a white GMC pickup truck on Los Osos Valley Road near Paradise Lane.
One vehicle sustained axle damage and the other suffered damage to its front end, making it difficult to remove the vehicles from the roadway, the CHP said on its traffic incident information page.
One passenger was trapped in one of the vehicles, which blocked both the eastbound and westbound lanes, according to emergency services app Pulsepoint.
Emergency crews were able to free the trapped person from the vehicle after a “prolonged extrication,” according to Pulsepoint.
One person was transported to the hospital with “major injuries,” a CHP public information officer told The Tribune.
Traffic was stopped in both directions for nearly an hour, reopening around 10:28 a.m., according to the CHP traffic incident page.
