Heat wave sends crowds to local beaches, causing SLO County traffic build up. Here’s where
The weather in San Luis Obispo reached 80 degrees Saturday, prompting traffic along the coast.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for San Luis Obispo County on Friday and expected to last through Sunday evening, with impacts most seen inland.
Temperatures were expected to reach a high of 83 degrees Saturday afternoon in San Luis Obispo, and a high of 66 degrees in Pismo Beach, according to the National Weather Service.
Local social media footage showed crowds at Avila Beach on Saturday, many with tents or umbrellas.
Traffic built up around the area, as Caltrans’ Quick Map site indicated slow roads. A few Waze alerts reported moderate and heavy traffic jams on southbound 101 Cabrillo Highway in Pismo Beach.
Highway 101 at Avila Beach Drive also had moderate traffic according to Caltrans.
The San Luis Obispo County Office of Emergency Services advised people over Twitter to “stay cool inside as much as possible” during the extreme heat.
