Wildfire scorches field on Central Coast: ‘Fire season is here’

A wildfire ignited in a rural part of Santa Barbara County on Wednesday afternoon, burning almost nine acres of grass, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The vegation fire scorched 8.7 acres in Cuyama Valley near Highway 166, Santa Barbara County Fire Department spokesperson Scott Safechuck said on Twitter.

“Fire season is here,” Safechuck tweeted.

By 2:30 p.m., county firefighters had extinguished the blaze with the help of an air support unit, according to Safechuck.

The fire did not threaten any buildings or cause injuries, Safechuck said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
