A car struck an 8-year-old child riding a scooter in Paso Robles Sunday evening, according to the Paso Robles Police Department.

At about 6:15 p.m., the police received a report the child was hit at the intersection of Cedarwood and Teak drives, police said in a news release Monday morning.

“During the preliminary investigation, it appears as if the juvenile, who was riding a self-propelled scooter, may not have looked for approaching vehicles prior to crossing the street,” police said in the release.

The vehicle was moving slowly at about 10 to 15 mph, but “was unable to avoid the collision,” police added.

The child had “moderate injuries” and was transported to a local hospital, police said in the news release.

Police were still investigating the incident as of Monday morning, the release said.
