Highway 154 closed in both directions after car plunges 100 feet off roadway

Highway 154 was closed Monday afternoon after a car plunged 100 feet off the roadway, according to the Santa Barbara Fire County Fire Department.

At around 1:30 p.m., a Volvo sedan went over the side of the highway near San Antonio Creek Road, a Fire Department spokesperson said on Twitter.

Two adult females survived the crash, and a rope system was used to rescue them, the Fire Department spokesperson said.

Both patients suffered minor injuries, the Fire Department spokesperson said, and were transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for evaluation.

The crash closed Highway 154 in both directions, the spokesperson said.

It was unknown when the road would be reopened.
