Smoker causes fire at popular Los Osos sushi restaurant

A commercial fire was reported at 8:32 p.m. Sunday night at Kuma Restaurant located at 2011 10th St. in Los Osos.

“At Kuma Restaurant looks like there was a smoker on the backside up against the wall, (the fire) was extending into the building a little bit,” said Paul Provence, North Coast battalion chief for Cal Fire/SLO County Fire.

“The fire is just smoldering right now, not actively burning,” Provence said.

“We’re just in the process right now opening (the wall) up to see what the extension is,” Provence said.

Cal Fire, San Luis Obispo County Fire and a paramedic unit responded immediately to the scene. Morro Bay City Fire responded with a large ladder truck.
