Mom and 3 children rescued in Paso Robles after floodwaters sweep car off road, sheriff says
A woman and her three children were rescued from a flooded road in rural Paso Robles on Thursday evening after their vehicle got stranded in the water, according to Cal Fire.
Cal Fire, the San Miguel Fire Department and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a stranded vehicle at the 8000 block of River Road on the border of Paso Robles and San Miguel around 6:15 p.m. Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Friday.
The woman and her children were trapped in their car at the Estrella River low-water crossing on North River Road, the release said.
“The driver had gone around road closed signs and attempted to cross through moving water,” the Sheriff’s Office said, resulting in her car being swept off the road and into the Salinas River.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, two people were attempting to bring the children to shore through “the waist-deep raging river,” the release said.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a deputy entered the water and helped all the children to safety, then went back to help the woman to shore.
“The Sheriff’s Office would like to urge our community to follow the law and abide by road closures,” the agency said in the release. “Don’t put your life or the lives of others at risk by circumventing warning signs.”
