Rechargable battery sparks Paso Robles house fire that displaces 6 people
A rechargable battery sparked a house fire in Paso Robles on Thursday evening, eventually leading to six people being displaced due to smoke damage.
According to a news release from Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services, firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire in the 500 block of Ferro Lane around 6:57 p.m.
The first arriving firefighters at the scene found a single-family dwelling with light smoke from the front door of the house, according to the release.
The blaze was quickly contained to the living room with “significant smoke damaged throughout the house,” the fire department said. Six people were displaced the fire, according to the release.
The cause of the blaze was related to a rechargeable battery that overheated and caught the couch on fire, which then extended to the rest of the living room, the fire department said.
In the release, Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services urged residents to ensure they have working smoke detectors in their homes, and reminded folks the upcoming time change is a “great time to change your batteries.”
