Paso Robles Mayor Steve Martin is receiving treatment for a serious health condition.

The mayor “has been forced to temporarily divert his time and attention away from community matters while he focuses his attention on his health, treatment, recovery and family,” the city said in a news release Thursday.

Martin missed City Council meetings on Dec. 20 and Jan. 31 due to an undisclosed health condition, the release said. The mayor also was absent for the most recent Feb. 21 meeting.

The city said Martin has a favorable medical prognosis, and he hopes to return to governance duties in early spring. In the meantime, Mayor Pro-tempore John Hamon will be filling in, the release said.

“The council and city staff are solidly in Mayor Martin’s corner as he addresses these private medical concerns,” the release said. “The council asks the community for compassion, dignity and respect for Mayor Martin’s privacy while he is away.”
