1 dead after vehicle crashes into tree off Highway 41, police say

One person died Tuesday morning in Atascadero after their vehicle crashed into a tree off Highway 41, according to the Atascadero Police Department.
Atascadero police and Atascadero Fire and Emergency Services responded to reports of a fatal crash on Highway 41 in the area of Old Morro Road East around 6:13 a.m. Tuesday, police said in a news release.
Police said the the vehicle was traveling west on the highway when, “for an unknown reason,” it left the roadway near Old Morro Road East and crashed into a tree.
The only occupant in the vehicle sustained fatal injuries in the crash, the release said.
The person’s identity is not being released at this time, police said.
