Drivers headed to and from Southern California will face a full closure of Highway 101 and a short detour in Santa Barbara County overnight Monday as Caltrans conducts repairs to bridges in Los Alamos, according to a news release.

A project to reconstruct the Highway 101 bridges at the interchange with Highway 135 will reroute southbound traffic from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning, while northbound traffic will close at 8 p.m. until 6 a.m., the release said.

The detour will take travelers on and off the highway briefly to avoid the overpass. Drivers in both directions will detour at Exit 154 to Bell Street to the northbound and southbound Highway 101 on-ramps, the release said.

Electronic message boards and detour signs will be in place to advise travelers of the highway closure, the release said.

“These closures will allow for realignment work on the bridges,” the release said.

CalPortland Construction of Santa Maria is scheduled to complete the $10 million project by spring 2023, the release said.

The black lines show the Highway 101 closure in Los Alamos overnight Monday, Feb. 13, 2023. Traffic in both directions will get off the highway at Bell Street before rejoining via the adjacent on-ramps.
